Rory’s legal career has tracked the needs of his community. During the foreclosure crisis from 2008 to 2011, he helped Northwest Justice Project develop a statewide response to the crisis representing homeowners facing foreclosure. When King County declared a homelessness emergency in 2015, Rory was serving as the Managing Attorney of the King County Bar Association’s Housing Justice Project. Eviction prevention is often the last line of defense before a family falls into homelessness. Rory managed a program of six staff and more than 100 volunteers in two courthouses to help ensure that tenants were not wrongly evicted.

 

During the COVID -19 pandemic, when the Office of Administrative Hearings had a yearlong backlog of unemployment insurance cases Rory joined the office as an Administrative Law Judge. Rory founded Washington Employment Benefits Advocates, PLLC because as an Administrative Law Judge he saw how many people showed up to their unemployment insurance hearing unrepresented and confused about the process.

 

Rory is running for City Attorney to build community, break the cycle of crime, and deliver a safer, fairer Seattle for all.
